The definition of "Citizenship," according to Merriam-Webster dictionary is, "the quality of an individuals response to membership in a community." Here at Educated Youth of America Inc., we empower our members to hone in on the quality of their participation in the community. Members of Educated Youth of America Inc. learn the value of being a citizen that participates in their community.
At Educated Youth of America, we study and learn from world renowned Political Scientists and their teachings. Members will be instruscted on a number of political science topics directly applicable to aid in future active and engaged citizenship.
The American Political Scientist, Russel J. Dalton's theory of citizenship. "A Good Citizen," by Russel J. Dalton, refers to "engaged citizenship," as non-electoral aspects of citizenship. These can span over several facets of good citizenship, such as involvment in civil society groups, supporting small businesses, advocation for certain causes, volunteering and helping others. At Educated Youth of America Inc., we create outreach opportunities so younger citizens know how and where to get involved in their community.
Dalton also gives a frame work for what "Duty-Based" citizenship looks like. Duty Based Citizenship aligns with traditional norms of American citizenship. Members are educated on a range of topics including voting, paying taxes, and the importance of serving on a jury. Members learn the significance of the obligations, responsibilities, and rights of good citizenship.
